Mass sensitivity of chiral symmetry restoration at finite temperature

Abstract

The thermodynamics of a cut-off linear sigma model is investigated taking into account the non-zero masses of the pseudoscalar octet mesons. The set of coupling corresponding to the realistic mass values results rather in a smooth crossover from the chirally broken zero temperature state towards the restored symmetry, than in a true phase transition. In the mπ-mK plane the size of the first order region around the chiral point is found to be relatively small.
