Abstract

It is shown that in order to overcome the limitations of the fundamental relationship of optics connecting longitudinal and transversal resolutions of the imaging systems, a class of wavefronts consisting of a large number of conical or wedge-shaped fronts should be introduced. An analysis of the point spread function and its side-lobes of a dot-like object imaged by the nontraditional imaging system with many-conical or wedge-shaped wavefronts is presented. Some applications of such a nontraditional imaging system to high energy physics are described.
