Management of secondary cataracts using the irrigation-aspiration technique

Abstract

Unlike the neodymium: Yag (nd: Yag) laser capsulotomy, the irrigation-aspiration technique preserves the integrity of the posterior capsule in most cases when used for the surgical management of soft after-cataract formation. Using this technique, we treated secondary cataracts in 102 eyes (96 patients) and found excellent post-operative visual acuity in 80.4% of the eyes. The irrigation-aspiration technique may be safely and effectively used in the management of secondary cataracts.
