Abstract

According to the development patterns of pre-Tertiary formations, Hungary can be divided into 2 basically different megatectonic units. To the N of the Central Hungarian Structure Zone, there are subunits representing the continuation of the internal zones of the Alps, Dinarides and the W Carpathians or exhibiting features related to these. To the S of the Central Hungarian Structure Zone the Tisza unit can be outlined showing affinities with the Apuseni Mountains. The evolutionary history of the 2 units has essential differences at least until the beginning of Neogene. -from Authors
