Abstract

The low-temperature magnetic ordering of CeAl2 can be described by a 24-component Ginzburg-Landau model. A renormalization-group (RG) calculation is performed on the model in d=4- dimensions to study the phase transition. The RG transformation has no stable fixed points to first order in, indicating a first-order magnetic ordering. Experiments confirming the first-order nature of the transition, or measuring the critical exponents if the transition turns out to be continuous, would be of interest.
