Mössbauer study of electrochemically deposited Fe-Ni-Cr and Fe-Ni-Cr-P alloys

Abstract

A new plating process of Fe-Ni-Cr alloys was recently developed which allows thick coatings of constant composition to be deposited. In order to get information about the type of the magnetic ordering, structure and phase composition of the electrodeposited Fe-Ni-Cr alloys we have performed Mössbauer experiments on electroplated Fe-Ni-Cr and Fe-Ni-Cr-P samples prepared under different electrochemical circumstances resulting in a very wide composition range. We have found that there are significant differences among the Mössbauer spectra of samples of different composition. The main phases of coatings with lower iron concentration have paramegnetic behaviour.
