Mössbauer studies on electrodeposited tin-copper alloys

Abstract

Electrodeposited copper-tin alloys were prepared using a tripolyphosphate electrolyte. Mössbauer spectra revealed that a Sn(IV) compound and ε-Cu3Sn were components of the alloys obtained in the deposition range - 250 to - 550 mV (vs nhe). At - 770 mV (vs nhe) a Sn(IV) species β-Cu-Sn alloy, η-Cu6Sn5 and β-Sn were formed. It seems that there is a close correlation between the shape of the cathodic polarization curve and the chemical structure of the deposit.
