Luminescence spectra of YAB:Er crystals were studied in the ultraviolet-visible region and in the 10-300K temperature range. The dominant Er3+-emission belonged to the 4S3/2→ 4I15/2 transition (18000-18500cm-1). Its Stark components were assigned and found to be consistent with those derived from the absorption spectra. The lifetime of the luminescence was determined as a function of temperature and Erconcentration, and the decay kinetics was analyzed.
