Localization and internalization of cell surface DNA in macrophages

Abstract

DNA-A-gold complex was internalized by mouse peritoneal macrophages. Pretreatment with DNAase inhibited the internalization, showing the specific binding of the complex to the cell surface DNA. The enzyme-gold complex was transported in coated vesicles. The experiments did not demonstrate the penetrance of enzyme-gold complex into the nucleus, however its presence near the nuclear envelope was observed.
