Limit of Ai Content in Fe-Si Electrical Steels

Abstract

Al is widely used as an alloying element to Fe-Si non-oriented electrical steels. In this case the effect of Al to the core loss is much larger than was expected from it’s effect on anisotropy, magnetostriction and electrical resistivity. This large effect is connected to the change in the precipitation structure. In this work precipitation structure of Fe-Si-AI strips containing different amount ofAI, produced by different technologies were investigated by transmission scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the core loss is stongly correlated with the number of precipitates with 0.1 μm diameter. Using the standard one strand annealing technology the Al was effective up to 0.5 mass % content.
