Light induced membrane potential changes in Halobacterium halobium observed with high time resolution by resonance Raman spectroscopy

Abstract

A τ=80 μs value was found for the build-up of the membrane potential in intact Halobacterium halobium cells. This time constant was determined from carotenoid resonance Raman intensity changes connected to the red shift of the carotenoid absorption band upon the increase of the membrane potential.
