Levels of 10B from the 9Be(p, α2γ)6Li and 9Be(p, p)9Be reactions at Ep = 2.56 MeV

Abstract

To determine Jπ values of the pair of states at 8.89 MeV in 10B given so far as 2+ and 3(-), we have investigated the 9Be(p, α2γ)6Li reaction, which selects the natural parity states. We have deduced the (p, α2) angular distribution at 17 energy points from the measured Doppler-broadened γ-line shapes. We have found a 2+ and a 3- resonance and determined their parameters by a two-level multi-channel R-matrix fit. The energies and widths obtained are about the same as those from the 9Be(p, n)9B and earlier (p, γ) measurements. On this basis, the levels found in our (p, α2) measurement and in the (p, n) reaction are assumed to be identical and the resonance parameters derived from them have been used to predict the 9Be(p, p)9Be elastic scattering cross sections. The calculated curve reasonably agrees with our measured elastic excitation functions.
