Abstract

The experimental finding that broadened X-ray diffraction profiles of tensile-deformed left bracket 001 right bracket -oriented copper single crystals containing dislocation cell structures are asymmetric is shown to be related to the existence of deformation-induced long-range internal stresses. The observations indicate that different lattice parameter changes prevail in the hard cell walls in the soft cell interiors. The resulting consequences with respect to flow stress models are discussed.
