The conditions for the onset of lateral instabilites in planar waves propogating in a chemical system based on cubic autocatalysis were derived. The introduction of an irreversible removal of the autocatalytic species was found to have a strong influence on the lateral stability of a planar propogating front. The linear stability analysis results of the corresponding traveling wave equations were compared with predictions derived from a `thin front' analysis.
