Large scale distribution of neutral gas around comet P/Halley

Trajectories of neutral gas molecules around comet P/Halley are traced in the cometocentric frame up to large distances from the comet taking both inertial forces and solar radiation pressure into account. The spatial distribution of the gas is shown to strongly deviate from spherical symmetry and depend on the initial outflow velocity of the gas. Minimal velocity requirements are calculated for O and H atoms at the farthest positions of Vega-1 and Sakigake where energetic ions were detected.
