Large enhancement of radiative strength for soft transitions in the quasicontinuum

Abstract

The radiative strength and the strong enhancement of the soft transitions in the quasicontinuum was investigated. The enhancement was found in the Oslo type experiments and was confirmed by two step cascade (TSC) measurements. The reactions of 57Fe(3He,3γ)57Fe and 57(3He,αγ)56Fe were carried out with 45 MeV 3He ions at the OCL. An enhancement of more than a factor of 10 over common theoretical models for transitions in the quasicontinuum was observed.
