The decomposition of Co2(CO)8 to Co4(CO)12 in heptane can be described by the kinetic equation: {A figure is presented} Dicobalt heptacarbonyl formed in a fast pre-equilibrium: {A figure is presented} is a possible intermediate of the reaction. The values for the equilibrium constant KD1 calculated from the kinetics of Co2(CO)8 decomposition are in good agreement with results from independent measurements.
