In a combined pulse and γ-radiolysis study it is shown that the 4-methyl-2,6-di-t-butylphenoxyl radical formed by the reaction of alkyl and alkylperoxi radicals rearranges with k=4×104s-1 to a benzyl type radical. The latter is the determining species for the generation of stable degradation products.
