Abstract

The rate and kinetics of the catalytic hydrogenation of N-benzylidene-aniline with Co2(CO)8 as catalyst precursor is identical with that of the formation of HCo(CO)4 from Co2(CO)8 and H2. The stoichiometric hydrogenation of Schiff bases with HCo(CO)4 is a two-step process with an imine. HCo(CO)4 adduct as an intermediate.
