Abstract

The keratinization process in oral mucosal flaps of rabbits explanted to the skin of the cheek was studied over a period of 1-3 weeks. Cytological smears showed an increase in the number of keratinized cells and qualitative changes in the type of keratinization. Histology revealed the development of an orthokeratotic layer on the surface of mucosal flaps as a sign of increased and altered keratinization.
