K-shell internal ionisation in beta decay

Abstract

The K-shell internal ionisation in beta decay has been calculated relativistically using the wavefunction proposed by Greenland and Irvine (1972) and taking into account the effect of the indistinguishability of the two continuum electrons in the final state. The calculated results are compared with the experimental data and a possible reason for the discrepancy between theory and experiment is discussed.
