A new method to estimate the linewidth for a single vacancy for 3d elements by the use of the asymmetry index is proposed and applied to re-evaluate previous experimental data for chromium and its compounds. The chemical effect on the width of Kα1,2 lines and Coster-Kronig transitions is studied and their relation to the electronic structures is discussed.
