Investigation of the nucleation process in CuCr base alloys

Abstract

Nucleation and growth processes are studied by isothermal resistivity measurements at 495 °C in CuCr base alloys. It is found that the deviation from Matthiessen's rule, Δϱ0, is highly sensitive to these processes. Measurements after homogenization at 800, 900, and 1000 °C are presented. In most cases Δϱ0 has a maximum at the beginning of ageing. The results are interpreted in terms of a positive contribution, having a maximum at a certain size of chromium precipitates and a negative one, due to solute chromium atoms.
