Results of some theoretical investigations and simulation experiments on perfectly stirred tank reactor control are reported. The sensitivity method was used to select the most suitable control variables. The properties of the reactor output noise were investigated by simulation with different noise sources in the reactor. The model of the reactors, behaving as nearly linear systems, was studied and the structural parameters (polynomial orders and time lag) of discrete, linear Astrom-type input-output model were estimated on the basis thereof. These parameters are needed in advance when estimating the discrete linear model for design of control or else for self-tuning or parameter adaptive regulation of such reactors.
