Abstract

Mössbauer spectroscopy was used to study iron(III) reduction by alkylresorcinols (ARs; i. e., chemical analogs of microbial autoregulators excreted by cells into the environment and involved in intercellular communication) in aqueous solutions simulating acidic soil conditions. The concomitant oxidation process for an AR (5-methylresorcinol) was monitored using UV spectrophotometry.
