Interpretation of the asymmetry of the first neighbour peak in the pair correlation function of amorphous materials

Abstract

The asymmetric shape of the first diffraction peak of various amorphous metallic glasses has been successfully fitted by the lognormal distribution; this can easily be interpreted on the basis of the lognormal cluster model. This result presents new statistics of the atomic sites in amorphous materials, and suggests strong variability of the ionic radius in amorphous metals.
