Internal coordinates of quantum-mechanical systems

It is demonstrated that the Hamiltonian for the internal motion of a nonrelativistic quantum mechanical system can be obtained just from the requirement of its overall translational momentum to be zero. Some particular cases relevant to an atomic system are also considered in some detail.
