Intermediates in photoinduced reactions of Hg22+ in aqueous solution

Abstract

Formation of the Hg+ radical ion has been detected in the flash photolysis of Hg22+ in aqueous solution, with a quantum yield of 0.16 (λir=266 nm). The longer-lived Hg2+ intermediate has also been identified as a product in a further reaction of Hg+.
