Abstract

A discussion covers the driving forces for investigation of the interactions between modern engine oils and reformulated fuels; classification of interactions between modern lubricants and reformulated fuels, i.e., by mode of action, by nature of action, by quickness of action, by engine type, by origin of fuels, by basestocks used for engine oils, and by results of interactions; and examples of interactions between the modern engine oils and reformulated fuels, i.e., interactions between the oils and fuels in gasoline engines, and interactions between the oils and fuels in diesel engines. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the Technische Akademie Esslingen 14th International Colloquium Tribology (Stuttgart/Ostfildern, Germany 1/13-15/2004).
