Interaction potentials in metals

Abstract

The cohesion of the metals is a frequently investigated topic of the solid state physics, but if the material has some crystal defects or other irregularities, the cohesion is not sufficient to describe them, there is no proper solution. The adiabatical principle gurantees the existence of the interatomic potential, its functional form can be deduced only from the first principles. The embedded atom method and the Finnis-Sinclair potential will be introduced in this paper. Both of them have the same form derived from different physical bases.
