Interaction of aromatic compounds with zeolite HZSM-5 studied by UV/VIS spectroscopy

Abstract

The adsorption of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and isopropylbenzene on zeolite HZSM-5 was investigated using UV/VIS spectroscopy. The assignment of bands was rather difficult due to the complex transformations of the adsorbates in the zeolite channels. The results of spectroscopic investigations and semiempirical quantum chemical calculations on the generation of different carbocations are in good agreement.
