Inhibition of GP 120 and antibodies binding to CD 4 by metal complexes of promazines

Abstract

One approach to decrease infectivity of HIV is to prevent binding of its surface protein gp120 to the CD4 molecule of T lymphocytes. We show here that Pd, Au and Cu complexes of promazine and chlorpromazine inhibit the binding of Leu3a mAb and rgp120 to CD4 expressing cells. The fusion of gp120 expressing and CD4 expressing cells was affected as well. These effects are due to nonspecific membrane effects of the metal-complexes on cell surface molecules.
