Influence of temperature oscillation on measured crystal weight during Czochralski growth

Abstract

A transfer function relating the measured crystal (or crucible) weight to the temperature variation of the melt is derived taking into account the movement of the flat solid-liquid interface and the effect of surface tension. Assuming small deviations generated by hydrodynamic oscillations the heat transfer from the streaming melt to the crystal is characterized by a periodic heat flux at the interface while one-dimensional heat conduction is assumed in the crystal. The frequency-dependence of the transfer function is discussed numerically using the material parameters of Ge.
