Influence of new chiral additives on phase transitions of binary mixtures of some cholesteric liquid crystals

Abstract

The influence of chiral additives Ic and Id on phase transition of binary mixtures of cholesteryl nonanoate with cholesteryl myristate is investigated. The new chiral additives were synthesized. The addition of the compounds to the pure cholesteryl nonanoate in different concentrations results in the formation of the monotropic phase transition. The shift of phase transition towards the direction of lower temperatures with respect to initial components is due to the binary mixtures. The phase diagrams of investigated compounds are formed on the basis of data obtained by optical microscopy. The molecular parameters are determined through X-ray diffraction.
