Abstract

Following a persistent gestational trophoblastic disease, successful chemotherapy and a Fallopian tube strangulation, an in vitro fertilisation and embryotransfer has been performed at our department in a 21 years old patient, resulting in triplets. In spite of the serious complications encountered during the ongoing pregnancy, healthy premature children were born at the 30th gestational week. The following life-threatening complications occurred in the mother: persistent gestational trophoblastic disease, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, thrombosis, triplet pregnancy and premature labour. The mother and the children are all healthy. Concluding we may say that preservation of fertility following chemotherapy for persistent trophoblastic disease and resulting in pregnancy is possible in such cases. However superovulation treatment may have severe complications. In case of venous thrombosis the search for an underlying cause of hereditary thrombophilia is inevitable. Despite excluding the thrombophilia factors in such cases the initiation and continuation of low molecular weight heparins is recommended throughout the pregnancy and the Puerperium.
