Abstract

Tissue samples from different organs of swine died of postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) or porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS) were collected for histopathological and immunohistochemical examination. The parallel immunohistochemical detection of porcine circovirus 2 together with the characteristic lesions of the affected organs (skin, tonsil, lymph node, brain, lung, spleen, liver, kidney, small and large intestine) is presented in the first time in Hungary. The histological alterations and the localisation of the viral antigen could be evaluated at the same time, which is a great help in the diagnosis of PMWS and PDNS. Since the immunohistochemical method has been proved to be useful in the diagnosis of PMWS and PDNS it should be introduced in the routine diagnostic work.
