How to test graphical user interfaces

Abstract

An approach for testing graphical user interfaces (GUI) was proposed. A software tool that tested GUIs by simulating the user through an action recorder was developed. A heuristic test procedure provided random input to GUI, but the randomness was guided with predefined weights assigned to the user controls. The weights changed during the testing process, as the controls were activated and the errors were collected for later investigation.
