Abstract

The oestrus of Black Racka ewes (n=5) was synchronized during non-breeding season, and fixed time cervical artificial insemination (CAI) was firstly performed with frozen/thawed (FT) racka semen. The oestrus was synchronized with gestagen sponge (Chronogest) and with PG 600 treatment im. The ewes were inseminated with 75 million motile spermatozoa per dose twice 52 and 58 hours after PG 600 application. The pregnancy was checked with transabdominal ultrasound at day 30th, 52nd and 76th after insemination. Sixty percent of the ewes were pregnant at ultrasound investigations and lambed one offspring each with 3.86±0.23 kg bodyweight by 146±1 day after CAI. Weight of the 30 and 70 days old lambs were 10.67±0.58 and 18.73±1.4 kg. In conclusion, due to promising results of the preliminary study the protocol should be tested with higher number of ewes.
