Histochemical study of traumatized muscle

Abstract

Light and electron microscopic histochemical studies were performed on the behavior of cytochrome oxidase, lactate dehydrogenase, succinate dehydrogenase, and glycogen content in the traumatized skeletal muscles of male albino rats. In the study, loss of the glycogen content and of the histochemical enzyme activities occurred in the following chronological order: glycogen content within 1 hour, cytochrome oxidase and lactate dehydrogenase within 2 hours, and succinate dehydrogenase within 4 hours of the infliction of injury.
