Histamine fluorescence in group forming peritoneal cells of the rat embryo

Abstract

Young forms of the mast cells are of lymphoid character. These young cells can be found in the peritoneal fluid which contains all forms of developing mast cells and a great number of lymphoid forms. The lymphoid mast cells show only alcian blue positivity or alcian bluesafranin staining. Earlier experiments demonstrated serotonin and histamine also in alcian blue negative cells. It was therefore assumed that the presence of biogenic amines was not restricted to the mast cells.
