Histamine content of hypothalamic nuclei of the rat

Abstract

Histamine was measured in individual hypothalamic nuclei and in the median eminence of the rat. The highest concentration of this biogenic amine was found in the median eminence. The basal and caudal hypothalamic nuclei were more richly endowed with histamine than the dorsal and rostral ones. The possibility that histamine may have a role in neuroendocrine regulation is discussed.
