Higher-order binding corrections to the Lamb shift

Abstract

Higher order binding corrections of the Lamb shift in systems with low nuclear charge Z are investigated. All binding corrections to the Lamb shift nP states in hydrogenlike systems at low Z up to the order of α7 are evaluated. Using the extrapolation of numerical results, an approximate value for higher order corrections to excited S states is obtained. A method is used eliminate any error from low-Z type series expansions or extrapolations of numerical data for high Z is developed. This calculation involves the use of convergence acceleration techniques for certain hypergeometric series and takes advantage of the supercomputing facilities.
