Abstract

β 2 microglobulin levels and SF/serum ratios were investigated in synovial fluids and sera of patients with R.A., gout, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthrosis, Reiter's syndrome and synovitis villonodularis. Free and hidden rheumatoid factors were determined. In SF of R.A. patients, a marked inverse correlation between β-2m quotient and free RF was found. Moreover, in R.A. a significant positive relation was obtained in SF between β-2m quotient and presence of hidden (acid dissociable) RF. No correlation could be shown in sera of R.A. patients or both in SF and sera of patients with other disorders, except in one patient with synovitis villonodularis. The possible connections between levels of β-2m and RF are discussed.
