High-frequency soft magnetic properties of Finemet modified with Co

Abstract

An effect of partial replacement of Fe with Co in the Fe73.5-xCoxCu1Nb3Si13.5B9 alloys (x=0-58.8) on the induced transverse magnetic anisotropy and magnetic properties (coercivity, power losses and magnetic permeability) has been investigated. It was found that modification of Finemet with 58.8 at% of cobalt and appropriate thermo-magnetic treatment makes it possible to induce a transverse magnetic anisotropy in this alloy, thus enabling significant reduction in its magnetic permeability and the increase in cut-off frequency to over 10 MHz. From the whole group of the alloys examined, two compositions were selected (40 and 58.8 at%), which are characterised by appropriate properties for high-frequency applications.
