A report is presented of 17 cases of gynecomastia observed during a period of 10 years. According to the classification of Lodi and Rapino, these cases belonged to the group of pathological gynecomastia. On the basis of the features of the cases, the author discusses the correlation between the Klinefelter syndrome and gynecomastia and the types of gynecomastia of familial nature. One of the abnormally developed male mammary glands contained structures characteristic of female breasts. It is concluded from the results of cytogenetic investigations that in certain cases of gynecomastia chromosomes studies, testicular biopsy and/or sperm examination may be necessary.
