Guiding of femtosecond pulses by microcapillary light-pipes

We have theoretically analysed the temporal broadening of femtosecond VUV and x-ray pulses propagating through nondispersive straight and tapered microcapillary light-pipes. Optical guiding is analysed in the ray-tracing approximation. We show that the pulse broadening can be controlled by the proper choice of the parameters of the light source and capillary tubes.
