Abstract

New data were gained about the role of the pathogen Bacteroides ureolyticus in horse studs. The infection results in the absence of pregnancy, otherwise no symptoms are evident. The course and clinical signs resemble those of contagious metritis caused by Taylorella equigenitalis. A suppository containing citric acid, bacteriocide, virucide and fungicide agents was tried to treat and to prevent B. ureolyticus infection. The treatment was successful, most treated mares became pregnant after treatment.
