GC-MS study on the composition of the o-phthaldialdehyde/ethanethiol derivatives of aliphatic amines

Abstract

The characteristics of the o-phthaldialdehyde (OPA)/ethanethiol (ET) derivatives of normal/isoC3, and C4, n-C6, n-C7 and n-C8 aliphatic and phenylethylamines have been studied by GC-MS. The composition and characteristics of the OPA/ET derivatives of amines were confirmed by GC-MS subsequently to their extraction. Results revealed that, in addition to the classical isoindole, the two OPA and the two SH-containing derivatives were also formed, in considerable amounts. Distribution and structure of OPA derivatives, their fragmentation patterns, as well as the relative intensities of their selective fragment ions, including reproducibility data, are given in detail.
