Fullerene molecule strain in RbC60

Abstract

Strain displacements of carbon atoms in a N60 molecule in the Pnnm phase of the RbC60 fulleride are first determined by X-ray diffraction. The measurements show that the polymeric bond length between carbon atoms of two nearest molecules C60 is equal to 1.69(1) Å, the rotation angle of the molecule about the polymeric direction is 47.0(3)°.
