FTIR spectroscopy of borate crystals

Abstract

Single crystals of CLBO were grown by the Czochralski method, while YAB and NYAB were obtained by the seeded solution grown method. The vibrational properties of the various molecular units, the energy levels of Nd3+ ions and the stretching vibration of the hydroxyl ions present in borates as crystal defects were measured in 9 K by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) absorption spectroscopy. In NYAB crystal, the effect of lattice defects on the electronic transitions of Nd3+ ions was observed in the spectrum. In CLBO, the presence of strong hydroxyl absorption bands was attributed to the hygroscopic character of the crystal.
